Passion for your Profession

"Get to know the people you work with. You can be shoveling sh*t for a living, but if you are doing it with people that you like, you are gonna love it." - Professor Rubadeau, legendary English professor in Univ. of Michigan.

I have a very simple routine every day now.
Zumba -> make lunch -> shower -> work -> study -> viral videos browsing -> sleep

No crazy weekends, no bubble tea/game nights, no midnight pillow talks, no dramathons.

I have to admit, the highlight of my day is learning all the new tricks that I can do with Excel and other softwares at work. I love basking in all the brilliance, enthusiasm and warm support from the people around me. Work can be stressful and challenging at times, but each hurdle overcome is just another milestone, giving testimonial to my efforts.

The darker side of the coin? Time flies by so quickly that I fear missing out on all the other stuffs that I have given up. Adventures out in the nature, connecting with my kawan-kawan, contributing to my nation in person, being there - physically for my family, sharing my life with an earnest companion who shares my values...

Is this what all of us have to struggle with?
Devoting our time and efforts for professional development, and let life pass us by?
I am trying my best to strike a balance, but we all know that being adroit is not my forte...

If I can't be a good Malaysian citizen, may I be an okay global citizen. Go go weekday/all-week vegetarianism~ Go go volunteerism~ Go go environmental conservation~

Happy birthday Mother Earth, and my beloved Mommy ^-^
I am who I am, only because you have always been there to inspire me and support me.

Eight Minutes

What would you do if you only have eight more minutes to live?

What would you do if you realize that whatever you do will never alter the outcome?

A TED talk guru talked about happiness, link here: http://www.ted.com/talks/srikumar_rao_plug_into_your_hard_wired_happiness.html

A summary of his talk: Happiness is about being contented at the current status quo and being invested in every process in life. We get frustrated often times because we were too invested in the outcome, and the disappointment that comes when we fail to achieve the planned goal. If we can change that perspective and take time to appreciate every step we take, and give our best efforts, true happiness will follow.

If we love every part of our life, our body just as we would smile at the sheer perfection of a rainbow, a lush grass plain, an unaltered form of nature, just the way they are, we can then plug in to our innate ability to be happy.

I am happy for everything I have, for your being in my life, and reading all my self-help-guru-style posts. I pray you find true joy and happiness in your life too.

True Will is Power

You know what to do and what not to do.

But do you have what it really takes to pull through and do the right thing?

Picking that cup of Dunkin Donut's ice coffee that has been rolling on the train for seven stops...
Saying no to that slice of cheesecake that you know you shouldn't eat.
Getting a head start on studying.
Filing all the paperwork you need to get done.
Cleaning your room.

Challenge yourself everytime temptation arises. You are much better than the weaker side of you.

Fight the good fight. That's why they call it "willpower".

Step up, dress up, speak up, and show up.
Life is too short to take the back seat.
Let's rock and roll~

Preach what you teach

Dear sisters and brothers,

I am really sorry for being a horrible nag/preacher everytime I talk to you.

The truth be told, I want you to be all that I have never been.
I've been there, done that same silly thing.
I've read and seen so many stories to 'think' that I know the 'right' thing or the 'smart' thing to do.

Because I lack the same courage to actually put the theory into action, I have to push you my dearest friends to do it.

If you have a moment to spare, drag my big *ss when you are dashing forward with the momentum that I have hopefully managed to nag into you.

Gleefully

Excel, I need you now. Can't be taking chances on these bills bills bills.
A loser like me have to get it right to be a billionaire.

Listen, when the candles go out, I want to hold your hand.
When I get you alone, there is no air.
How can I forget you when your true colors are toxic?

Hello, blackbird, don't rain on my parade.
Fly me over the rainbow to another animal just the way you are.
Baby, when it's cold outside, don't stop believing in my endless love.
I will stand by you. You can lean on me. We will be stronger, single ladies.

Just like these silly love songs, we all need somebody to love. Just keep holding on. Someday you will be walking on sunshine. So, sing and smile.

Faithfully, I say a little prayer, to sir, with love.

Fantasy and Dreams

My dream restaurant finally has a name :)

Com'mon (sounds like Come on)
Because everybody's got something in Common~

I know it's cheesy, so I am gonna make it a warmer, more locale version of the awesome Cheesecake Factory.

Five years, to my dream restaurant.
